As a boy raised primarily in the South, I’ve always had a special place in my heart for barbecue, beef jerky, burgers, chicken wings, and other delicious – and typically meaty – foods. It didn’t take me too long to learn, though, that something seemed to be missing from the foods I loved. Sure, the flavors were always fantastic, but what was wrong?
Then I discovered spicy food. I can’t pinpoint a date or age in my life, but I came to realize that normal, everyday levels of heat just weren’t enough for my palate. I sought ever-more insane levels of heat, from super-hot versions of my “comfort foods,” to nigh-fatal hot sauce concoctions. I have even dabbled in my own, and it brings a sly smile to my face when hear that my homemade salsa has numbed someone’s mouth.
My primary job is as a high school English teacher, but I’m here to both educate and learn. As the newest contributor to the site, I look forward to working with the rest of the team on our most sacred mission.
