Once in a while I get a bottle of sauce that is hard to figure out before tasting. Blackberry Belle was one of those. The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the bottle was “I’m not a big fan of blackberries,” so I went in a tad biased. I like to branch out and test myself at times, and I knew this would be a challenging sauce. This is the first time I have seen this ingredient used in a hot sauce, never mind it being the main ingredient as well! My curiosity is getting to me. Let’s get to it!
Blackberries, Habanero Peppers, Raisins, Distilled Vinegar, Water, Sugar, Blackberry Extract, Sea Salt
This will surprise no one reading this, but Blackberry Belle smells like blackberries with a touch of heat. The consistency is fairly thin; I was expecting this to be thicker for some reason. By itself, this sauce showcases the sweetness of the berries along with some heat. I’m actually a little surprised that it is as “hot” as it is considering the ingredients. I wasn’t sure at all what to use this sauce with at first, then I remembered that I was cooking some boar ribs soon and thought I would try it there. This worked very well! If you happen to like cooking game, this sauce will be a very good match. This sauce will also go well in anything that you think could benefit from some added sweetness. With all this being said, I am still stubborn and not the biggest fan of blackberries. If you are, then more than likely you will really like Blackberry Belle. The heat is there is not shy to show itself but not a killer. Heat Medium and Flavor I will go Nice.
