Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to week 1 of the Eat More Heat Skinny Dip and Chunky Dunkaroo! Many nmanufacturers are sending a sauce and a recipe to make dip. Gunther’s Gourmet, however, makes a dip they saw fit for competition, so here it is: Spicy Black Bean Dip by Gunther’s Gourmet.
Diced Tomatoes, Black Beans, Sweet Potatoes, Bermuda Onions, Jalapeno Peppers, Lime Juice, Fresh Garlic, Honey, Sea Salt, Cumin, Habanero Chilies, Cilantro, Cayenne Pepper, Black pepper, Oregano, Herbs and Spices.
It appears to be an interesting-looking dip. After having read the ingredients, I can confidently say this is the first product I’ve tried containing sweet potato. Perhaps due to the bean content and sweet potato, this dip looks almost like refried beans, but smells much better. Though it may look like refried beans, you can see bits of tomato and other components suspended in the dip mix. I don’t detect any notes of potency, but here’s to giving it a try!
I clearly enjoyed this dip; I ate half the jar before I could be bothered to put it down. The tomatoes were not the most prominent flavor. Instead, true to the name, the beans actually held out for the greatest flavor presence. Dissimilar to the name, however, I did not find it all that spicy, despite the inclusion of both jalapenos and habaneros in the ingredients. Overall, I would give this standalone dip a Nice rating, with a fire rating of Mild. Stay tuned to see how it stands up to other dips in the Skinny Dip and Chunky Dunkaroo!
