Well folks it’s the first Scroturday night after the National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show in Albuquerque, and I brought back with me some product for review. Today I have with me Range Relish by Texas Rib Rangers. Made with Bread n’ Butter Jalapenos, it claims it’s the best taste you’ll ever put a lip to. Well I’m about to delve into some.
JALAPENO PEPPERS, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, SUGAR, VINEGAR, ONIONS, SALT, SPICES, NATURAL FLAVOR, XANTHAN GUM, LESS THAN 1/10TH OF 1% SODIUM BENZOATE ADDED AS A PRESERVATIVE
This is a very thick consistency, which is obviously standard with a relish. Looking at the jar, you can see all the jalapeno seeds mixing in with the jalapeno skins and meat. It’s really thick, and it definitely smells like delicious jalapeno. The green brown substance looks almost as thick as a pepper mash, but you can smell the vinegar, and seeing it slop around inside the jar shows you it’s more than that.
I have to say, I was moderately surprised with the level of heat in this relish. Typically I don’t find jalapenos all that potent, but this is a rather spicy relish. Despite the piquancy though, there was still an element of sweetness that rolled across the palette. The jalapenos were made into a really smooth consistency, but there were still chunks that exploded in your mouth with jalapeno juice. It tastes good on a spoon, but would taste even better on a nice juicy brat or hot dog. I am going to go ahead and give it a medium in the heat category, and a nice in the flavor category.
