SLAP YA MAMA!

Wait! Don’t take that literally!

We here at EAT MORE HEAT! don’t condone abuse of anyone, especially Mamas!

However we do condone the torture of taste buds.

Today we’re testing Slap Ya Mama Hot Sauce. This is a Louisiana style hot sauce that is made in Ville Platte, LA, and here’s a little info from the website:

“SLAP YA MAMA” Cajun Seasoning really got started by just trying to please our customers. We owned a convenience store at the time and sold food in a deli. Everything was cooked in a broaster; fried chicken, French fries, corn dogs, hot links, etc.Our customers began complaining that our food was too salty. Well, we were using a seasoning that everybody loved but it was too salty if you wanted to taste a little bit of pepper. So, we decided to make our own seasoning mixture that gave you the spicy Cajun taste without being too salty. We then sat down and mixed until we got it exactly like we wanted it.

The name of “SLAP YA MAMA” came about when the creator of the seasoning jokingly said, “When you use this seasoning, the food taste so good that it will make you want to go home and slap ya mama because she could never make something taste that great.” We couldn’t keep enough “SLAP YA MAMA” Cajun Seasoning on the shelves.

Now if you notice they’re talking about their seasoning in the history, not the hot sauce.

I’m not sayin’ but I’m just sayin’…..

You can buy this stuff at almost any grocery store.

We found it at the local Whole Foods Market.

Now let’s get to tha reviewin’…..

FIRE
Medium

I think they should change the category to Louisiana Style Warm Sauce because this stuff warms your mouth at best. It’s a bit milder than the afore mentioned Gringo Bandito sauce, but it has enough spice to give you a mellow burn with generous use.

FLAVOR
Nominal

The flavor of this sauce can be summarized in four words; Spicy Heinz 57 Sauce.

If you like Heinz 57 then you will like this stuff. If you haven’t tried Heinz 57 before, then the best way to describe it would be a zesty, garlicky sauce that would probably taste best on chicken or pork.

This reviewer happens to like Heinz 57, so that’s why it gets the Nominal rating.

We now interrupt this review for this humorous announcement…..

This comes from Dave at fiery-foods.com

It seems there was an unidentified chile pepper plant growing in someone’s garden.

They sent a picture to Dave for identification:

As it turns out the pepper is an unidentified ornamental pepper, and is really only used for looks.

HOWEVER

The origin of this pepper might be better explained when you look at the wide shot:

If you don’t recognize the plant to the left of the pepper plant I’ll give you a hint;
this COULD BE Cheech and Chong‘s garden.

That is all for now.

The plan for today is to go a couple of really spicy local eateries for lunch and dinner, then review the best one for tomorrow.

Until then, EAT MORE HEAT!
