G-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-ingo Bandito
Hello again from the world of spicy goodness.
The USPS came through just in the nick of time, and we’re proud to start not only our reviews, but our Sissy Saturday reviews with the pleasantly medium Gringo Bandito Hot Sauce.
Let’s start with a few interesting tidbits straight from Matt over at Gringo Bandito:
Gringo Bandito Hot Sauce, is a Mexican style hot sauce. It is composed of vinegar, onions, and peppers both fresh and powdered. We make the product in a professional kitchen in Newport Beach. Great on pizza, eggs, Mexican foods, and in bloody Mary’s as well.
Gringo Bandito just won a first place Scovie Award for the best tasting all natural hot sauce. We also received first place in the best tasting medium heat sauce category. This is a national competition that has been annually occurring for 21 years. Additionally, Gringo Bandito has won four third place awards for the label art in the past two years.
We would like to thank Matt for the info, and now let’s get down to business.
First of all let’s give them props on the label art, it is pretty cool.
Now let’s talk taste…..

It’s no surprise what the fire rating would be here. They won the Scovie Award this year in the Medium hot sauce category, and it lives up to the billing. This is one of those sauces that I just pour straight into my mouth to taste it. The combination of Habanero, Jalapeno, and Red Japanese Chili Peppers gives it a nice bite, but it’s not overwhelming nor does it linger too long. If you can handle a medium salsa, then this should be no problem.
I really like the flavor of this sauce.
There are two things that mediocre hot sauces overdo far too often, and that’s vinegar and garlic. It’s normally pretty easy to tell when a sauce has too much vinegar because it has the consistency of water, and garlic tends to drown out the flavor of the peppers.
This IS NOT a mediocre hot sauce.
First of all I don’t know if this sauce even has any garlic in it? It’s not listed in the ingredients, and if they did add it then it’s virtually undetectable. That being said, the flavor of the peppers jumps out at you with every drop. In addition, the consistency of this sauce is more thick than it is watery. You could fill a bowl with this stuff, dip a chip in it, and it would actually stay on the chip! It’s good stuff, and I would definitely recommend you buy a bottle.
Oh, did I mention that Dexter Holland (lead singer of The Offspring) is the owner of the company and helped come up with the recipe?
That’s it for today. Look for the next post on Monday because Sunday will be the day of rest for the site.
As always, EAT MORE HEAT!SM
